Summary:

This is the first time that any Dutch museum has devoted an exhibition to Alexander the Great, his journey to the East, and the influence of Hellenism. The exhibition spans a period of almost 2,500 years and includes over 350 masterpieces, among them the famous Gonzaga cameo, from the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg.

Daily from 10 am to 5 pm, Wednesday to 8 pm
Closed on 25 December 2010 and 1 January 2011

Adults: €15; Children aged up to 16:free
Groups of up to 15: €12 p.p.

Guided Tours:

Price: € 90 for each group guided tour (excluding admission to the exhibition), max. 15 people. Guided tours may be given in Dutch, English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Greek (subject to availability) and Berber. Education:

Upon request, one of the Hermitage Amsterdam guides can give a lecture in one of the three meeting rooms. Price: €175 per lecture (excluding admission to the exhibition and excluding the cost of hiring the room). Lectures can be booked by e-mail boeking@hermitage.nl

Related Events:

The museum is open until 8 pm every Wednesday; cultural evenings are organized after this in the auditorium or the chapel. These evenings range from music and dance to literature and film, and will deal with Russian themes and other aspects related to the exhibition. Specialist speakers will give a series of talks on Saturday afternoons, and twice a month there will be a Sunday afternoon concert. Accessibility:

All galleries and facilities are accessible to wheelchair users. Reservations for wheelchairs and rollators are possible.

Shop:

The museum shop offers books and merchandise related to the exhibition as well as literature from the Russian Library, Russian music, modern films, art books, and a special line of merchandise of Hermitage Amsterdam products. It is possible to visit the museum shop without paying the admission fee for the exhibition. Opening hours: daily 10 am to 5.30 pm and Wednesdays until 8 pm.
